Through months of watching the herd, I’ve come to know them not simply as wildlife, but as individuals, each with distinct relationships, behaviors and personalities. Their lives move constantly between beauty and hardship, tenderness and hierarchy, quiet presence and sudden flight. These paintings combine recognizable portraiture with my abstract language of layered color, veils, loose marks and lines that disappear and re-emerge. Yet what drew me to paint him wasn't simply his size or stature. It was the contradiction I had watched over time: strength paired with an unexpected tolerance and gentleness toward the other deer around him.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eThe painting was built through layers of loose drawing, transparent color, veils, ink and partially obscured marks. His form appears, disappears and re-emerges across the surface, allowing the abstraction to remain as important as the portrait itself.\u003c\/span\u003e\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003cp class=\"isSelectedEnd\"\u003e\u003cspan\u003eAt the center is his eye.
