Slow Burn

Slow Burn

Slow Burn is an acrylic mini-series that began with an unlikely palette - hot reds, oranges, turquoise, acid yellow and pink salmon against fields of gray. Painted at my lake studio during a summer when wildfire haze repeatedly softened the horizon, the three works reflect the strange contrast between that muted, smoky atmosphere and the vivid blue-green waters of Lake St. Clair and The Great Lakes. Colors that seem incompatible coexist naturally under extraordinary conditions. Heat, Haze, and Ash trace that transformation-not as a literal depiction of fire, but as an abstraction of its energy, atmosphere and aftermath.
