Wonderment
Two Pieces. Oil on wood panel. The brightest work in my practice.
These were made in a season that ended before I knew it would--before the fracture. Just him and I, living our best life in the studio. Bold brushstrokes, vibrant reds, blues and yellows and greens, lines catching the light, circular motifs that mean nothing except someone drew them because it felt good.
They're joyful. Warm. They breathe differently than everything else on this site -- no weight, no underneath, no grief. Just color and movement and the joy of making something bright and alive.
I don't make work like this now. I can't. These are the "before" -- proof that the studio was this bright once, that color was just color, that making art could be uncomplicated.
That time existed. These two pieces are what it felt like.
